Acute Dacryocystitis PPT Summary

  3. Symptoms include severe pain, fever, malaise, and epiphora, while signs include tender swelling of the lacrimal sac, redness, edema of the skin, reflux of pus, and abscess formation.
  4. Complications of acute dacryocystitis include acute conjunctivitis, lacrimal fistula, corneal abrasion, lid abscess, osteomyelitis of the lacrimal bone, orbital cellulitis, facial cellulitis, acute ethmoiditis, and rarely cavernous sinus thrombosis.
  5. Treatment options include systemic and topical antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, hot fermentation, draining of pus with incision and dressing, and fistulectomy with DCT or DCR.
