2. Psoas abscess can be primary, resulting from hematogenous spread, or secondary, due to infections from adjacent organs.
3. The microbiology of psoas abscess varies depending on the underlying cause, with renal diseases being associated with E. coli and Proteus, GI tract diseases with polymicrobial infections, hematogenous spread with monomicrobial Staphylococcus aureus, and Pott’s spine with Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
4. Clinical features of psoas abscess include abdominal/flank pain, fever, chills, limp, malaise, weight loss, and referred pain to the hip, groin, and knee.
5. Diagnostic tests and imaging, such as blood tests, culture, radiography, ultrasonography, and CT scan, are used to confirm the diagnosis of psoas abscess.
